Tobacco Inner Liner Aluminum Foil

April 1, 2026

Aluminum foil linings are a core barrier and protective material in tobacco packaging. Their quality directly determines the tobacco’s freshness preservation, aroma retention and storage life. Haomei Aluminum, a manufacturer and exporter with 12 years of experience in this field, produces tobacco inner liner aluminium foil that, thanks to precise structural design, strict specification control, and core production technology, are widely used in tobacco packaging in 15 countries worldwide.

The protective performance of tobacco inner liner aluminum foil stems from its precise three-layer composite structure. This structure, validated through over 100 formula iterations, maximizes tobacco preservation and protection. We employ a design of “aluminum foil substrate + double-sided coating + paper-based composite”.

The core barrier layer uses 1235/8079 high-purity aluminum (purity ≥99.7%) double-zero aluminum foil with a thickness controlled at 6.3-6.5μm. It is formed by a four-roll irreversible cold rolling process, with a pinhole rate ≤1/㎡ (φ≤0.3mm), which is the fundamental guarantee for the barrier between aroma and moisture.

The total coating amount of the double-sided water-based coating system is 8-10g/㎡. The front heat-sealing layer (modified acrylate) ensures a heat-sealing strength ≥3.0N/15mm, and the back composite layer (polyurethane modified) ensures a peel strength to the paper base ≥1.2N/cm. All coatings have passed FDA and EU food contact material certifications.

The supporting substrate is made of 60-80g/m² food-grade wood pulp paper, which is corona treated (surface tension ≥38dyn/cm) to balance composite strength and subsequent printability. This structure ensures that the finished product’s oxygen permeability is ≤0.05cc/m²·day·atm and water vapor permeability is ≤0.01g/m²·day, far exceeding industry standards.

Based on the packaging needs of different tobacco customers worldwide, we have established a precise specification system combining standardization and customization, with all parameters strictly controlled.

The standard aluminum foil thickness range is 6.0-8.0μm, customizable to 5.8-8.5μm, with a control accuracy of ±0.2μm.

The standard finished product weight is 50-70g/㎡, with a customized range of 45-85g/㎡, accuracy ±2g/㎡; the standard width is 81-86mm, customizable to 75-90mm, accuracy ±0.1mm.

The standard roll diameter is 300-450mm, customizable to 250-500mm, accuracy ±5mm; the standard tensile strength is ≥70MPa, customizable to 70-100MPa, accuracy ±5MPa.

Among these, our customized 70mm narrow-width cigarette aluminum foil for Middle Eastern clients improved packaging efficiency by 12%; and our 8.0μm thickened aluminum foil developed for high-end North American brands extended the shelf life of tobacco to 24 months.

The quality stability of the tobacco inner lining aluminum foil relies on core technology control throughout the entire production process, which is also our core competitive advantage.

For precise thickness control, we employ a German Bruker online laser thickness gauge with a sampling frequency of 1000Hz, achieving longitudinal thickness fluctuation ≤0.1μm and lateral difference ≤0.2μm.

Regarding pinhole suppression, our unique “cold rolling oil film optimization + annealing atmosphere control” process reduces the pinhole rate from the industry average of 5 pinholes/㎡ to below 1 pinhole/㎡, solving the moisture-proofing problem in high-humidity areas.

Coating curing utilizes a dual-stage drying process of infrared + hot air, with a temperature gradient of 80-120℃ and a speed of 300m/min, ensuring complete coating curing without VOC residue, and passing the EU REACH 211 substances of very high concern testing.

The composite process uses solvent-free composite technology, controlling the temperature at 75-85℃ and the pressure at 0.3-0.4MPa, avoiding the risk of solvent residue while reducing energy consumption by 40%, meeting the environmental protection requirements of European customers.

Our tobacco aluminum foil offers multi-dimensional practical advantages from production adaptation to end-user use, perfectly meeting the actual needs of our customers.

In terms of ultimate freshness preservation, it can stabilize the moisture content of tobacco within the optimal range of 12-14%, with an aroma retention rate of ≥98%. Even after 6 months of storage in the high-temperature environment of Africa, there is no significant change in sensory quality.

Regarding high-speed adaptability, the coating has a wide heat-sealing temperature range (120-160℃), suitable for high-speed packaging lines of 300-600 packs/minute. Actual foil breakage rates measured in Indonesian and Egyptian factories are ≤0.1%, far below the industry average.

In terms of cost optimization, through the “thinner aluminum foil + optimized coating” technology, unit costs are reduced by 8% while maintaining performance, meeting the needs of emerging Asian markets.

Regarding compliance assurance, the entire process is ISO22000 and BRCGS certified, and each batch provides reports on pinholes, barrier properties, and heavy metal testing. It has passed the access standards of major global markets such as the US FDA, EU CE, and Middle East GSO.

Based on a mature production system and rich export experience, we can provide customized solutions for customers in different global markets. We have three dedicated production lines for tobacco liner aluminum foil, with an annual capacity of 8,000 tons and a 15-day rapid delivery capability. For the Middle Eastern market, our products undergo anti-dust and anti-static treatment, with a surface resistivity ≤10^9Ω. For the North American market, we use a low-migration coating, with heavy metal leaching ≤0.01mg/kg. For the Southeast Asian market, we offer a moisture-resistant enhanced version with a water vapor transmission rate ≤0.008g/m²·day.

As a technical expert, I firmly believe that the value of tobacco inner liner aluminum foil lies not in the material itself, but in the precise control of every micron-level parameter. This is the technological foundation that has earned Haomei Aluminum the trust of global customers for 12 years. For customized solutions or sample testing, please contact our technical team.
